Have You Heard? Rush for Mayor Announces
Absentee Ballot Day on January 3rd

Chicago (Dec. 30, 1998)--- The Rush for Mayor campaign has announced an Absentee Ballot initiative that will kick–off with Absentee Ballot Application Day on January 3, 1999.

The campaign has begun broadcasting public service announcements on area radio stations to promote the effort and has placed absentee ballot applications at churches, public libraries and retail outlets throughout the city.

"Every vote counts and I want every vote," said Bobby Rush. "There are hundreds of individuals who are from Chicago and are eligible to vote but they will be out of the city on Election Day, particularly students attending college outside of Chicago."

Registered voters who want to vote absentee in the February 23rd mayoral election must complete an application for an absentee ballot by February 18. An absentee ballot will be sent to their out-of-town address and then they must complete their ballot and return it to the Board of elections by February 23rd.

The Rush for Mayor campaign will be working with some 200 churches on January 3rd to make absentee ballots available to their congregations. The initiative will also include canvassing area malls, clubs, sporting events and other venues from January 3rd through the February 18 deadline to distribute absentee ballot applications and voter registration information.

"I want every soul to the poll," Rush said "even those whose souls will be out-of-town.
